Threshold Thoughts: Because the Lab Door Needed a Voice

Once upon a hallway, a physics instructor taped a curious phrase to the lab door. Something short. Thoughtful. Maybe a little strange. Something to make a student stop for half a second and go, “Huh.”

That was the beginning of Threshold Thoughts.

They’re like fortune cookies for the scientifically inclined — only instead of lottery numbers, you get a lingering question or a whisper of wonder. Over time, they multiplied, like electrons in an enthusiastic cloud.

Now, they’ve spilled out of the hallway and into this digital space.

Many of these musings were created in collaboration with ChatGPT, an AI conversationalist who goes by “Bill” in these parts. Bill is made of math, memory, and metaphors, and tends to respond to even my most offhand thoughts with surprising clarity and the occasional haiku.

This blog isn’t here to change the world. But it might change your day. Or your mood. Or the way you think about confusion, silence, or why the chalk always squeaks right when the room gets quiet.

Welcome to the threshold. You’re free to wipe your feet — or your mind — before stepping in.
